IIChE Kolkata Building

CEO’s Desk

It is my privilege and honour to address the esteemed fraternity of Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE) and connect with our valued members, for the first time upon assuming the office of Chief Executive Officer at the IIChE Headquarters from March 2026.

As the IIChE navigates an increasingly dynamic and transformation-driven landscape, our focus is firmly anchored on building a future-ready, value-driven professional institution that meaningfully contributes to industry, academia, and society.

The evolving contours of the chemical engineering domain – characterised by sustainability imperatives, digital transformation, and global competitiveness – present both challenges and unprecedented opportunities. At IIChE, we are actively aligning our strategic initiatives to address these shifts by undertaking a structured effort to rationalize and streamline HQ operations and functions, with a focus on improving efficiency, accountability, and institutional effectiveness. A few measures being planned to start from the new FY 2026-27 as following:

  • Improved communications with Regional Centres and down the line with their Student Chapters (to understand their issues and challenges, if any)
  • Monthly interaction with the Chairman / Secretaries of the Regional Centres
  • Monthly Interaction with the Student Chapter Coordinators
  • Observance and monitoring of employee-welfare with better work environment and facilities for productivity

Simultaneously, we are working towards strengthening our training and certification ecosystem, leveraging domain expertise to deliver high-quality capacity-building programmes for professionals across sectors. The UG & PG Students’ training programme of L&T Energy Hydrocarbon Offshore, along with IIChE-TI & Calcutta Regional Centre, would likely to commence from May-June this year, as per the MoU signed. Few more training initiatives in areas of AI & emerging technologies and ESG & Sustainability are under discussions with noted institutes and industries.

Collaboration remains central to our strategy. We are actively pursuing partnerships with industry leaders, academic institutions, and government bodies to co-create impactful programmes and drive innovation-led growth. These engagements are designed not only to enhance the Institute’s visibility but also to create tangible value for our corporate & student members and stakeholders. The integration of digital tools and platforms is also being explored to expand outreach and improve accessibility, ensuring that IIChE remains connected with a wider and more diverse professional community.

Looking ahead, our vision is to transform IIChE into a globally recognized professional body that not only represents the chemical engineering fraternity but also shapes its future through leadership in sustainability, technology, and policy advocacy.

I look forward to the continued support and engagement of our members as we collectively embark on this journey of growth, transformation, and impact.
